If you look at the life of any successful person you will see that it took the help of a lot of people to get him there. No man can do it all alone. If you made a crucial mistake or had a critical character flaw do you have someone in your corner who will cover it up for you? Will that person bring it to your attention or talk behind your back? Is there someone in your life that you can trust absolutely?

You may be the best in the world at what you do, but what about those things that you can't do. Thats where the support people who you can trust come in. Do you have people who are in a position to make the good necessary decisions that you need made for you in your absence? If you don't have them then you know just what you are lacking in this area. In order for you to maintain excellence in all things you need people with you who are excellent in their own areas. Remember that any chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Your support people can take care of the small details that you may not have time to take care of. If you allow them they will make you shine in ways that you never even thought were possible. Our support people round out a team and keep us looking good from behind the scenes. The most important part of any football team is its offensive and defensive linemen. We seldom even know who the linemen are but the backs and receivers who are smart will always remember to give their linemen credit for their accomplishments.

Recognize the need for others and recognize the value of what they do. We will look at the glamour positions and forget about the service positions. You also need to let those underneath you know how much that you appreciate their help. An appreciated person will work harder for you. They will really respect you if they see that your appreciation is genuine. Don't fake it because they will know when you do. Take some time to really learn about what they do for you. Do what the smart Quarterback does. Make sure that you treat them to your time and attention. You need them more than they need you.

A good leader must first be a good follower. It would help you to appreciate your people more if you go do their job with them every once in awhile. If you show the attitude that says that these jobs are beneath you how do you think that attitude will make your followers feel?

No one has ever succeeded without the help of other people. You need to appreciate what your helpers go through for you.

Develop a support system which is mutual. If you support them they will support you. Start with your immediate family. Nurture their love and appreciation and you may be surprised at how a valuable a resource that they really can be. I have found that the people who serve under you can really make life wonderful but they must be motivated to do all that they can for you.
